HEKATHON OFFLINE 2022 is a live speedrunning event, held in Cologne, Germany from the 7th to the 9th of October 2022. It is broadcasted live on Twitch, and hosted on the channel European Speedrunner Assembly (twitch.tv/ESAMarathon). ESA is one of the leading channels for live gaming content worldwide, with events taking place all year round in a number of different locations in Europe.

During speed-running events, players from all over the world unite to showcase the speed-runs of their favourite games. Runners perform back to back on a tight schedule that does not allow for technical delays, as viewers in person and at home watch, cheer and donate towards the event’s chosen charity.

As the head of audio, my job was to set up all the equipment in a way that would be easy to use for all volunteers when I was not available to assist. I took over venue mixing and live-stream mixing duties during most of the event.

Fixing technical issues on the fly and coming up with creative and quick solutions was key to running the event smoothly, as the schedule had very little time to spare. Keeping the viewers engaged was also critical. The broadcast held thousands of viewers at any given time, and unexpected delays would harm the viewership numbers.
